Autism is a part of who I am.

By Chelsea Dub

Autism is a part of who I am. If you take away my autism, you take away my self (i.e. aut- or autos = “self”).

Autism Speaks: it's time to listen. You cannot fix what is not broken. Autism is not a disease. We are not incomplete puzzles—we are whole human beings. We are not tragedies—we are products of neurodiversity. When you say you want to eliminate autism, you are saying you want to eliminate us. Well, we are everywhere (1 in 88, remember?), and we are going nowhere. We will not be silenced, and you do not speak for us. Keep your 'cures'; we'll keep our brains.
